4th Meeting

The 4th Meeting of CIAK was held on the 13th of December 2012. The group met in front of the National Education Central Office and headed for the Directorate for Sports and Youth of Muratpasa.
In the search for the systems to raise the quality of integration of youth into the politic and democratic life, we came across with the directorate which is responsible for all kinds of sport and youth activities. And before this year, they were more concentrated on Sports and Sporting Clubs but this year, they have opened their Youth Centres.

We wanted to search, learn and get involved into the activities organised by this govermental  organisation which is supported by the state but also working with an association framework.

The participants of the group wanted to get registered for the Volunteer Activities and their contacts have been realised.

Two of them are going to work as Youth Representatives of their school, announcing Youth Local Activities/Organisations/Panels/Competitions and others to the other young people at their school. Two others registered for a Youth Research tour to take place in January 2013, to the Eastern Part of Anatolia bordering with Georgia.

As the young people asked/learned and inquired they found many interesting activities they can get involved and they also need to work as a representative of the local body at the social youth groups they belong to.
This can be taken as a big step to increase the representation skills of the CIAK participants, they, as the more young people they represent, the more their skills of representation will improve.

CIAK TURKEY 2nd Meeting

On the 21st of November 2012, CIAK Turkish Group met at Gebizli Secondary School Meeting Room. 10 more students from the secondary school were also invited to join the activities.

Firstly, the meeting started with the short description of CIAK Project to the other activity participants. And then the following activities were conducted.
1)      Ice-breaking and warm up: Young people are wanted to find a pair from the group and introduce themselves. After two minutes, the partners talk about each other to the whole group.
2)      Look at the visuals and talk: The young people are given the list of pictures and they are wanted to tell and explain the effects of the kind of problem/barrier they associate each picture with.
3)      The previous activity brought again the “communication barrier” forward.  Connected with that, the activity that focuses the differences between the messages sent and the perception of them was conducted. In this activity, which is called “BUG” young people are wanted to draw a bug following the instructions one by one. Eventually, it is found out that, neither the  drawn bugs of all participants are similar nor any of them to the original. Which brought  post reflection session on communication?
4)      The other activity is conducted to increase the group Dynamics and communication. The groups try to pass over a hypothetical river all together, founding strategies to deal with the problem. The reflection session of this activity focuses on finding solutions and putting their plan into practice knowing that they have to act all together as a group to be successful.
5)      The final activity, also focuses on communication, appropriate leadership behaviours and communication. The imaginary sugar cube firm is managed by young people.  The leader finds out that if he/she consults the team for their opinion the rate of success is higher. At the same time, the participants find out that on the condition that they recognize their skills and capacities, it is more efficient for them to set goals for themselves.
6)       After the activities are over, the young people had a break for tea/coffee/soft drinks and cookies.

The young people have shared the barriers they face in their daliy lives using visuals (either the photos they have previously taken, or from the internet they have chosen, each speaking of min. two barriers) being inspired by the photos, everybody shared opions how these affect them as barriers.

Later on, we started to work in sub groups each group taking one of the major barrier into analysis and writing the reasons and the results of this barrier.

Finally in order to see and summarize what we really find out as barriers for young people in Antalya we worked in two groups and listed all the problems that were mentioned either at the meeting or have been considered before the meeting by the participants. The listed items are planned to be used as a reference for the questionnaire to be conducted on approximately 250 other young people and analysed.

After the first phase of the meeting, the second phase went on with the Education Manager. The brainstorm list prepared by groups presented to him. As he asked and answered about the problems/obstacles observed by Turkish young people and shared his opinons about them... Sometimes, bringing in some of the new implementations to be brought by the Turkish Government.
